Comparing and Contrasting the Ways Tom and Gatsby Treat Daisy. Two powerful men, both in love with the same woman. Gatsby and Tom both treat Daisy differently in The Great Gatsby, so let us see what we can learn through this. In the novel, The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald creates differences in which Tom and Gatsby treats Daisy to show their individual personalities. Tom treats daisy like she is his second choice when she deserves to be his number one girl. Tom cheats on Daisy with Myrtle. Daisy is suppose to be Tom’s one and only until death due them apart, yet he picks another woman over her. If Tom is picking someone over Daisy then this proves to the reader that he does not care about Daisy. Another thing Tom does is he makes Daisy ride back with Gatsby after the huge disagreement between Gatsby and Tom occured. Now, Tom does this to try and make him look more powerful and in charge while putting Daisy in an uncomfortable position. Tom wants to look dominant and powerful instead of helping out his wife. Gatsby spends outrageous amounts of money every week attempting to get Daisy to attend one of his parties. He spends these outrageous amounts of money because Gatsby wants to create a perfect reunion between himself and Daisy. This reunion is suppose to give Daisy something that she will remember for the rest of her life, Gatsby wants to be her knight in shining armour. Nick’s house is completely reorganized by Gatsby whenever Daisy attends the tea party. This shows the viewer that he is trying to create a perfect environment for Daisy. This environment is like Gatsby’s pick up line and it is suppose to make Daisy and Gatsby rejoice and ride into the sunset together. Gatsby is so caught up in giving Daisy the best that he comes off as a hopeless romantic and believes in fairy tale
