Introduction Art has been a form of evoking emotion in many different ways, whether in the past, present, and future. A famous period that opened up a gateway of modern art was Post-Impressionism, which started in the early 1980s up until the 1910. During this movement, artists began to express their emotions through various and techniques. Two influential artists that stressed on the emotional perceptions of paintings, were Vincent Van Gogh and Edvard Munch. These two painters, different, yet alike in many ways, emphasized the representation feelings in their work in ways that did not just captivate a person’s mind, but their heart as well. Van Gogh’s most famous painting is the “Starry Night”, painted in 1889 and Munch’s famous painting is “The Scream”, done in 1893. They both are within the realm of expressionism and projecting how they are feeling through their artwork. Though the aesthetic and artistic techniques of Van Gough and Munch, are similar in terms of the details, brush strokes, irregular shapes, they are different, because they showcase different elements, emotions, and color. Impressionism, which began in the 1860s based art on capturing “the belle epoque” – “the good life”. Paintings were usually under the theme of public leisure, light reflections, changes in time and weather. The post impressionists, rejected this style and thus came up with their own style of expressing themselves, through brushstrokes, disoriented colors, and different structures. Artists during this period, wanted to move past the typical perception and representation. It pushed not only the artists, but also those viewing to interpret their work rather than just observing it
