Charles Simic’s ‘Summertime’ at first glance seems like a complex, difficult to comprehend article with no distinct point or outlying message. Some would most likely claim that it is too eccentric, descriptive, and wordy, which is agreeable. Although, this article also speaks of simplicity, beauty, and wonder. This article is intimidating. Large and uncommonly descriptive words, a strange and difficult thought process, and an aspect that makes one think that Simic is working hard at sewing a complex web through his phrasing, but it is also very appealing.

The concept here is to understand what the term “nonviolence resistance” means. Fannie Lou Hamer, Martin Luther King, and James Baldwin all talked about the unfair treatment that blacks faced simply because of their skin color. The similarities that these individuals shared was based around the want of equal rights. Martin Luther King was determined to change how races interacted with one another. Fannie Lou Hamer wanted equal voting rights for African Americans because she believed they should have the same rights as whites.
Julia Alvarez, in her poem “’Poetry Makes Nothing Happen’?”, writes that poems do play a role in people’s lives. She supports her idea by using relateable examples of how poems might change someone’s life. Her first example is simple, poetry can entertain someone on long drives. This does not only aply to long dirves however, Alvarez uses this to show that poetry does not have to have a big influence on someone’s life, instead it can affect a person in the smallest of ways, such as entertainment. The second example describes poetry comforting someone after the loss of a loved one.
It is a little short and sweet poem of only eight lines. Just in the title it states my three favorite things, warmth, summer and the sun. In lines three through four it says “Warm southern wind, blow softly here.” it made me feel like I was laying on the beach getting a tan. When I read about summer and sun, so many memories come back to me.
The aspects of poetry vary throughout different poems.

Some poetry is written in a way that the reader can “hear”, “feel”, “see” or “taste” elements in the poem. Some poems may rhyme while others may not need to in order to convey the message.
Poetry is something that should be indulged in
Poetry is a very unique type of writing. Poetry allows people to express their emotions in a way they feel comfortable. Every poem has a meaning to it, whether it is talking about food, interest, or a moment in their lives. Readers often mistake the poet as the narrator, although in many cases this is true. “Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is bonded with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words,”(Paul Engle). Poetry covers all spectrums of life, whether it encompasses morality, love, death, or finding ones true self. Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman have that such gift, and are nothing short of illustrious.
