Some of us are tall, thin, short, thick. Some people have long legs, long arms, some are muscular, and some are weak. Every human is different and has different body types. Media has been trying to implant the idea of one single body type for women and men. Two ads exhibit what the media is doing. One ad, from the website, www.Skinnywater.com, shows a poise girl dressed in different outfits. The caption of the ad says, “strut your skinny”. Another ad, from www.Vitaminwater.com has a picture of Dwight Howard, a basketball player, flexing with a tough look on his face. The caption on the ad says “Dwight Howard loves vitamin water”. The ad contains bright, fun, happy colors. It also has different drawing of a girl in different outfits walking. The model of the drawings is thin, has long legs. She seems to be very happy and confident,. She looks like she loves her life and herself. The drawing of the girl take up most of the ad. The caption says “ STRUT YOUR SKINNY” , the words strut your are in bold font. On the bottom it contains information about the drink. It has zero calories, zero sugar, zero sodium, and zero guilt. Similarly, the second Ad shows a very happy athlete, Dwight Howard. He has a tough look on his face, but he still exhibits happiness. He looks very masculine, this tells you this ad targets men. His body language tells you he is strong and fit. He is flexing his arms, so it shows off his muscular physique. The variety of colors for the product are bright colors. The skinny water ad makes women think that they can only be confident if they are skinny, it makes them believe that if they are heavier they cannot walk with poise. The zero calories tells women that eating something with calories is bad and that something with zero calories will give them zero guilt. Everyone should eat what makes their body feel good not so that they can fit a specific body type. Everyone should be at peace with their food and not see it as the enemy. Which by saying zero calories zero guilt it is symbolizing that the inexistence of food is a good thing. Furthermore the vitamin water ad, makes men think that they need to look like a celebrity, that need to be muscular. It makes men that do not look like this be unacceptable to society. It makes people believe that since a famous person loves something everyone else should love it too. This is portraying the myth of inequality because it shows that famous people are better so we need to do what they do. Also, both ads are very motivational with their caption.
