Two Different Invasions Invasions are a topic H. G Wells and Ray Bradbury write about to entertain the readers. These authors wrote their stories using different interpretations of intrusion, and include different accounts of people’s personal experience with martians. The two texts adequately display an invasion occurring through different characters and events. Zero Hour and War of The Worlds include characters that are trying to find refuge in the midst of all the chaos occurring. In “Zero Hour”, Mrs. Morris endeavored to keep her and her husband safe by locking the door and hiding in a far corner. Before Mrs. Morris figured that Mink is the leader of the martians, she noticed something strange happen, which was Mink making a yo-yo vanish. This event shows the so called game “Invasion” turns out to be more than just a game after all. When the yo-yo vanished, it proved an invasion or some alien or strange phenomenon is developing. When this happens, it allows Mrs. Morris can see more clearly about the whole situation and figures that this is not just an activity her child is playing.The author writes, “Mink flung the yo-yo down its string, reaching the end of it- it vanished” (Bradbury 254). In The War of the Worlds as the invasion is going on, the narrator realizes the martians are acting in a way the people never thought they would act like before. The martians went to their fallen comrade and helping him instead of focusing on destroying the humans. This is unusual and odd, since the martians started out ruthless and destructive.
