‘The Daily Mail’ and ‘The Guardian’ have both written an article surrounding the issue of ‘CALAIS’. Both newspaper show different styles of writing, both newspaper has also taken a different approach to how they write about the topic of ‘Calais’. In this essay I shall be comparing and contrasting both newspaper article.
Comparing both headlines firstly starting with the Daily mail ‘How Calais’ ‘jungle’ migrant camp has now become a mini city- complete with restaurants, a theatre, book shops and free Wi-Fi’ With such a bold headline, it would seem that The Daily Mail would be sending a message to the public were by the Migrant do not need much help as they have all that they need in their now ‘ jungle’ migrant camp. The Daily Mail uses descriptive writing to paint a specific picture to the reader, an example of this is ‘…. The notorious ‘Jungle’ migrant camp in Calais, has grown into a self- contained mini-city – a permanent magnet for people trying to get to Britain.’ (Mail Online, (2015). How Calais 'Jungle' migrant camp has become a mini city. Throughout the article a more formal structure takes place I would also say that the article contains expository style of writing.
Another style of writing which the guardian uses would be the narrative style of writing ‘…… Volunteers do their best, bringing food, clothing, tarpaulins; smugger gangs do their worst, preying on people’s desperation’ ( Cooper, Y. (2016). The most shocking thing about Calais is that it’s not even too big to solve | Yvette Cooper. [online] the Guardian. The motivation of both newspaper is to inform the public of what is taking place around the world. The Guardian reaches out to people for the public to understand how difficult the migrants have it whereas the Daily mail uses a more negative approach towards the current
