becoming an adult is a long process, but it is all worth it at the end but exploitation can have a part in growing up. In the short stories “the answer is no”the author Naguib Mahfouz tell how a sexual assault affects a women. This assault was unexpected she thought of him as a second father Without love or desire on her part the thing had happened. and in “One Friday Morning,written by Langston Hughes, a black girl was not allowed to win an award for her art because of her race, so she promises to make a change in the world. The unnamed narrator of “the answer is no” father had passed away two years ago, and her mom had been taken back by the over familiarity in manner of the man . anyone that has gone through what she did would understand.the pain and anger causing her not to be able to marry a man but now Nancy Lee, a black girl in a white school, has always been discriminated against for her race, but she learns discrimination on a much deeper level after she is denied an award because of her color. and both of these characters have experiences, the lose of their innocence, and they have similar reactions. Both Nancy Lee and the narrator of “the answer is no” felt physically lost and shocked about what had happened. Nancy Lee found it hard to breathe, and the narrator of “the answer is no” felt anger and hatred. Nancy Lee promises to herself that she will make a change in the way colored people were viewed in the world, and to help stop discrimination. In both stories, it is clear that the protagonists’ youthful is gone. They are no longer children, but instead they are smart and kind children becoming good adults and have clearly matured enough to understand the situations happening around
