As for the speakers life and that of Stella, some women show characteristics of being naive and are drawn to the principles that men are in control. In the poem, the speaker fathoms with the sense that even through a marriage, it's ironic how confined women are and their willingness to endure suppression in order to please their lover, “Subject to man in every state, How can she then be free from woes?” ( Anonymous 2-3). Upon being naive, Stella often does whatever Stanley wants in hopes to avoid any confrontation as she's well aware of how aggressive he can be when things do not go as he plans. She gives him her full respect and always sides with him to merely dismiss any interruptions in her life. The only way that their relationship was able to withstand his abuse was through their sexual life, “there are things that happen between a man and a woman in the dark… unimportant” (Williams 70). Many believe that women must be loyal to one man, ever since she lost the love her life, her actions recapture what she once shared with her lover at a young age which explains why she acts recklessly and constantly lies. Blanche feels that the love she shares with Allan was genuine unlike Stella and Stanley resulting in her to continuously encourage Stella to leave him, “But you’ve given in… you’re not old! You can get out” (Williams 64). Both Blanche and the speaker demonstrate that only a genuine lover is worth staying for because they don’t hold any control over women since their love consists of mutual love and respect. A man that holds distinctive features like Stanley such as abusive behavior is not something a wife should bear, Blanche focuses on the belief that it is never too late to make a change in life, especially if it's beneficial. If a man and a woman are in a relationship and there isn’t
