Hailey Buss American History Mr. Sunderman 26 February 2018 W.E.B Du Bois and Booker T. Washington were very effective people during the time era where racism was clear. They worked their heart out for what they believed in and wanted to get what they wanted. They worked for a good cause too. Booker T. Washington was someone a lot of people looked up to. Washington started Tuskegee University in Alabama for African American people to go to. Washington was born a slave after emancipation his family moved to West Virginia. Washington started as a janitor until his school work was done then went to teach at a day school and soon started his own.(The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica) Booker T. Du Bois did was to try to make life easier or better for African Americans. From when he started he has been a great scholar along with all his schooling mentioned earlier he also went and taught, as a professor, Greek and Latin at Wilberforce University in Ohio for two years. In 1896-1897 Du Bois became assistant instructor of sociology at University of Pennsylvania. From 1897-1910 he served as professor at Atlantic University in economics and history. From 1934 to 1935 Du Bois served as chairman in the department of sociology at Atlantic University. (“NAACP History: W.E.B. He worked his life away trying to teach and get people to understand why he believed what he believed. He never had a difficult life but he still saw what others were dealing with. Everything he did was to help others, in some way. If I could have the stamina he had I would go a lot further in life, we all would. All around I think they both did a good job doing what they did for African Americans however I think that Booker T. Washington’s would be more effective in today's society. Yes, W.E.B. Du Bios wrote books and taught people many things but Washington went out and spoke more often. Washington also did more publicity or tried to anyway, W.E.B. Du Bios I don’t think was one who loved the public eye like Washington did. Both Washington and Du Bios were very effective in what they did for society as a whole. Also for helping their fellow African Americans. They both showed that no matter your skin color or race that you could accomplish whatever you wanted if you worked for it.
