Have you’ve ever felt that something wasn't right in your life? Have you ever felt like a prisoner in your own home? Do you ever feel denied something you so desperately wanted or believe you have? Has anyone or yourself sacrificed something for you or someone you loved? In both short stories the Necklace written by Guy De Maupassant and The Yellow Wall Paper written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman show relationships between men and women that have done all that was stated above. For example, her husband got her an invitation to a fancy ball, were those who she had fantasize about would be, instead of being happy she became more miserable than she had been before. “Instead of being thrilled, as her husband had hoped, she scornfully tossed the invitation on to the table”(Maupassant 173). She worried about what she would wear and decided that she will not attend. “All right I’ll give you the four hundred francs”(Maupassant 174). Being upset by the reaction his wife had given and the loving man of her, he sacrificed four hundred francs to his weeping wife, the money he so hardly saved for a rifle he had wanted, for a fancy new dress she can wear to the ball. In addition, before the ball, madame Loisel had borrowed a diamond necklace from her rich friend, and at the conclusion of the ball, we are informed that the necklace went missing. In the effort to replace the necklace, Monsieur Loisel scarifies any future of his and hers to help his wife pay off the debt in replacing the necklace for 10 years.
