Knight and Squire: A Contrast In the “Prologue To THE CANTERBURY TALES” by Geoffrey Chaucer he depicts the pilgrimage to Canterbury. However, the knight and squire behave very differently. Even though the squire is a knight in training he has much to learn about his actions. The traits that make a good knight excellent are, “Chivalry/ Truth, honor, generousness, and courtesy”, (ll:45-46) These qualities exemplify a true knight, a “knight in shining armor.” A true gentleman. On the other hand the young knight in training has different ideas for what he loves, which is, “to win his lady’s grace” (l:90) His father loves courage and honor, but the young squire loves the idea of having
