Compare and Contrast
To Kill A Mockingbird is a great movie and novel. The novel goes into more detail than the movie did. The movie did go into more detail about the images of the characters and the setting of Maycomb's town. It also shows all the emotions the characters went through throughout the novel and the book, especially during the trial. Seeing the characters' emotions at the trial showed how they all really felt and wether they were passionate about it or not. The character that surprised me the most was Mayella. She was very very emotional and had so much fire in her during her testimony. The novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, is similar to the film version by making racism very obvious, yet differs by adding the character Aunt Alexandra and the scene where Calpurnia takes the kids to the First Purchase.

It was an important scene in the movie because Jem and Scout learned new things about Calpurnia and found out she had a whole other life than just being their maid. It also exposed Jem and Scout to other communities than just Maycomb, which was really interesting to see them interact with other people than just the people in Maycomb. The kids also get a taste of what Tom Robinson and Calpurnia receive on a daily basis. Jem and Scout are welcomed into the church with open arms and everyone is super nice and they don’t think of them as any different from them. Some of the church members feel that Scout and Jem are unwelcomed at their church, including Lula who states in the book, “Why you bringin white chillun to our church” (119). These comments don’t affect Jem and Scout because everyone else is really welcoming, which is what stood out as the theme of this
