Norman Foster once said “As an architect you design for the future with an awareness of the past for a future which is essentially unknown.” As boys, they both had an awareness for how they should design what they were building. From the time that both boys were young, they have had a very unique eye for design and architecture. They took that aspect on design as boys to build a base for their career as men. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Frank Owen Gehry were two of the greatest architects and designers ever known in the history of architecture.

After his training, he continued to better his skills working with his dad who was a stone mason and while working with his father, he participated in several apprenticeships (“Ludwig” Bio). Likewise to Mies, Gehry traveled to get the best education that he could. He moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California school of Architecture. In 1956, he moved to Massachusetts with his wife to attend Harvard's Graduate School of Design. From the time he was a boy he was always concerned about making everyone around him happy and satisfied and that is one the qualities that he had that not many architects had and that is one of the biggest things that people admired him for (“Ludwig” Famous People). He had several impacts on society and one of them is that he is the one who designed the new campus layout for the Illinois Institute of Technology. Ludwig ran the school when its name was The School of Architecture. Another impact that Ludwig had on society was he always had people wondering what made his work stick out and be bolder then others and it was his progressive design philosophy that he has included on each one of his designs and structures (“Ludwig” Bio). Together with Mies, Gehry has impacted the world on many levels and one being extremely inspiring. He inspired multiple people to take great interest in architecture and become architects themselves. He not only inspired people to become architects and have a love for architecture he decided to become a professor at Columbia, Yale, and the University of Southern California
