The ballet of Cinderella was written by Charles Perrault and the music was done by Prokofiev. The composition began in 1940 but because he stopped creating it to make an opera of War and Peace, it was finished in 1944. It was originally selected for Tchaikovsky to write its music, however it never surfaced. Cinderella is part of eight stories in the book “Histoires ou Contes du temps pass”. The most popular performances were put together by Ben Stevenson since 1970. Prokofiev was also the author of Romeo and Juliet, a popular ballet with even more popular music. The Bolshoi Ballet, the original group that asked Tchaikovsky to write the music for Cinderella, but later asked Prokofiev. The piece itself is dedicated to Tchaikovsky since Prokofiev loved him and desired to be like him. Many tried to make different ballets of Cinderella and few gained popularity. The Cinderella ballet by Fredrick Ashton used the same music that Prokofiev wrote but with different choreography than the Bolshoi Ballet. The first reported ballet of Cinderella was in 1813, however there is no further information on it which can lead to the assumption that it was not highly popular. A girl, living with two evil stepsisters and an evil stepmother is forced to do their bidding and become their servant. When an old beggar woman (the fairy godmother in disguise) asks for help, Cinderella helps her. She turns into the fairy godmother, brings fairies for each season, and gives her a carriage and clothing for the ball, warning her that if midnight is near dwarves will appear and she will have to come back. She goes to the ball, is given oranges as a sign of love, and runs away at twelve. As the prince tries to find the owner of the shoe, he finds Cinderella and sees the remaining
