Comparison Of Different Instruments Used To Measure The Health-Related Quality–Of-Life In Patients
Introduction (1)
Quality of life (QOL) is an vague concept and is closely related to the conceptions of the goodness of life. It covers all the factors associated with necessities of life. It is used to measure how happy and/or satisfied the individual is with his or her life as a whole. QOL measures include many aspects such as housing, employment, standard of living, marriage, interpersonal relationships, religion, and environment.
However, the health care system and its providers are more concerned about the health status of an individual and therefore health-related quality of life (HRQOL) is introduced. HRQOL will measure the health of an individual from the aspects of physical, mental, and social well-being. It is a double-sided concept that consists of both positive and negative aspects of health. The negative aspect includes disease and dysfunctions, whereas the positive aspect encompasses feelings of mental and physical well-being, full functioning, physical fitness, adjustment, and efficiency of the mind and body.
