Comparison Of Government In Canada And The United States

Governments have been shaping the way people live ever since the first. Each different political system that a government uses are similar and different and have their pros and cons. These similarities allow friendships between countries because of similar political beliefs, but also make enemies between countries because of differences in political beliefs and systems. The government system for the United States (US) being a representative democracy is an example for this because some governments with political systems similar to the US are allies. For example, Canada having socialism as its system which is similar to a representative democracy is an ally with the US. There are elections for either presidents or prime ministers and both make decisions that effect the present and future of the country. The president in the US can sign new laws, appoint judges, and lay out the federal budget for example. In the US, the president can serve two, four year long terms if they get reflected after the first four years. Similar to this, the prime minister can decide the size of the cabinet like in Canada for example which is key for decision making in Canada. The terms for prime ministers varies by country. In a fascist government there is usually a dictator who leads the government that rise into power and usually have some sort of military or political background. The dictator has complete control in the government and holds all power and authority within the state and can stay in power for as long as they like. This type of leader is very different than a president or prime minister because they aren't elected and they have no limitations on the amount of power they have or can use. They have this power because in a fascist government there are no checks and balances on power of the leader. There are no restrictions or limitations whatsoever, the power is all located in one party and if there is voting it is made by the head party and the people can either vote for whoever the party wants or not vote at all. In a representative democracy and in socialism there are checks and balances. In the US, the judicial branch can look at laws and rule them unconstitutional. For legislative, congress can overturn presidential vetoes and treaties with 2/3 vote from both houses, can reject nominations of judges, and can impeach the president. In a socialist government, prime ministers do not have many limitations, but countries like Canada do not have fixed term lengths so Prime Ministers can either stay for a long time
