In the story“Of Mice and Men”, Steinback suggests that we as humans should cherish the time we have with loved ones because you never know when the last time you have with them will be. Which makes it really hard when one of them loses their lives because of how close they've grown. George and Lennie have know each other since they were kids. That’s when George realized Lennie needed help and he was the one to do it. In the beginning of the story George and Lennie got ran out of their town and were on their way to a new one. Once they got there George told Lennie he would do the talking so the boss would hire them both. But once Lennie accidently laughed and their boss was curious why George kept covering for Lennie. Lennie and George have been friends since they were kids and they have grown closer and closer. But from Crooks point of view he felt that George would be better off without Lennie and he felt George already knew that. In the end of the story it shows the theme the most because of how hard it was for George to kill Lenny. After George shot Lennie it felt like the shot sound went on for miles. The author says, “George shivered and looked at the gun, and then he threw it from him, back up on the bank, near the pile of old ashes”(106). This shows that we as humans should cherish the time we have with our loved ones because you never know when the last day you have with them is. George knew that Lennie was the one who killed Curley’s wife because of how her neck was snapped. He also knew that Lennie didn’t mean to but he doesn't know any better. George killed Lennie because he didn’t know what Lennie would do next, what he could do next. He also didn’t want Curley to hurt Lennie at all. Just like Candy and his dog, he knew that he was the only one that could do it. In conclusion, we should cherish the times we have with the ones we love because we never know when the last day we’ll have with
