The novella, Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, has become a classic over the past several decades for its emotional appeal about friendship and heartbreak. John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California, later John died on December 20th in 1968 of heart disease. Steinbeck’s father name is John Ernst Steinbeck, and his mother names Olive Hamilton, she was a school teacher. Many of his books have to deal with friendships and the time when the great depression was happening. Steinbeck books, The Long Valley and Of Mice and Men both dealt with life and death. He also wrote about the everyday men, not the well to do men. John was an American novelist who has won a Pulitzer Prize for his novel, The Grapes of Wrath. This Novel portrays the plight of migrant workers during the great depression. A friendship with Edwards Flanders Rickett, who is a marine biologist gives Steinbeck an idea. When Rickett died in 1948 he wrote a lyrical tribute and used as a preface in one of his books. John worked with all different types of people, which gave him empathy for these types of worker.
