In the Novel “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck the title of the book comes from a poem by the 18th century Scottish poet named Robert Burns, He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. His poem is about a mouse which carefully builds a winter nest in a wheat field, only for it to be destroyed by a tractor. The point is that no matter how carefully a project is planned, something may still go wrong with it. This relates to the to the book because Lennie and George are two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in California in search of new job opportunities during the Great Depression in the United States, They have the idea of having their own ranch and farm . George hopes this dream comes true so that he and Lennie can live a "better" life. The two of them had it all planned out and they keep managing to get closer to there dream but obstacles keep getting in there way and nothing seems to help them get to where they want to be. Lennie has a serious mental disability and likes to touch things it’s like he is a Small little kid in an adult's body. He doesn't have the ability to understand the same things that an average adult can understand. The owner of the ranch the two of them were working on has a son named Curley. Curley is a kind of guy who pursues to be all tuff and not afraid of anything. Curley was mad when someone was flirting with his wife and picks a fight with someone and chooses Lennie and punches him repeatedly. Lennie doesn't protect himself until George tells him to fight back. When Lennie does, he crushes all the bones in Curley's hand. Lennie saw Curley's wife in the barn and she let Lennie touch her hair just to show her how soft it is and Lennie wouldn't let go because he likes to touch things and not let them go. Lennie accidentally kills Curley's wife by shaking her so hard that her neck breaks, remember, he is a big strong man. He does not kill her
