In Fahrenheit 451, the characters are ruled by a totalitarian government who control all aspects of their lives. The government promotes TV and technology in the society, so that people won’t have time to think about the faults in the government. In order to convert the people into mindless robots, the government burns books due to its controversial ideas which provoke thoughts. Many people are clueless about the harsh world they live in, yet they desire to remain ignorant and live in a fantasy world away from the cold reality. Ignorance may be blissful for a short period of time, but without acknowledging the problems, the solutions will never occur.
In the futuristic book Fahrenheit 451 reality is turned upside down when heroes become villains. The world is blind to the evils that lay inside the government. The people who aren't are educated are hunted, and seen as insane. Morals will be put to the test, and although this book focuses on one man's journey through it all, it is very clear that the issues this fictional society faces could not be to far from issues what could happen in real life. Fahrenheit 451 is a direct representation of the theme man vs society and his journey to wake up the sleeping civilians of the United states.
The differences between Fahrenheit 451 and our Society You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them. In the society of Fahrenheit 451 books are illegal, Firemen start fires, and technology and government control people.
Imagine a world where books are illegal and firemen start fires instead of putting them out. A fireman named Montag lives in this world. Montag originally agreed with the laws against books but eventually broke them himself. Mildred eventually becomes sick of having the books in her house and breaking the law so she turns in an alarm against him. Montag then runs away and find the “book people” and live with them in the free community.
Fahrenheit 451 is set in a horrible, yet very possible, dystopian world. The setting is very undesirable because everyone thinks that books are bad so they have prohibited all of them. Everyone has this Belief because over time it has been convinced that books only bring sorrow. Most people have forgot about books and their importance, but the people who haven’t forgotten try to sneak books into their homes only to then have their homes burned, sometimes with them in it. Books are valuable, worth the time and effort, and in Montags’ world books are considered dangerous.
Humanity A representation of many differences and one similarity is shown within Fahrenheit 451 and present- day societies. School illustrates something important that both societies should have in their lives; Fahrenheit 451 demonstrates school habits differently than present-day teachers. For example, a dystopian and present-day society have different learning habits which helps create a strong difference. In Fahrenheit 451, school schedules include “an hour of TV class, an hour of basketball or baseball or running . . .
What would you do if there was another world that burned homes instead of put them out? Society today is used to keeping the community a safe place instead of putting the society in danger. This society strives for balance and fair living. Fahrenheit 451 contrasts to modern society in areas of Government, Firemen, and Books.
Kahlil Gibran once said, “A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle.” Knowledge is something that needs to be used. If you’ve amassed a large amount of information, but don’t use it, it doesn’t have any worth. This is ever so apparent to Guy Montag, who must use the little knowledge he has to face the laws banning free thinking. The dystopian society of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury has many laws and standards that are completely different from those of our world.
The differences between our society and the society in the dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451 are numerous, but Bradbury said it quite well when he said, “'I don't talk things, sir, ’I talk the meaning of things. I sit here and know I'm alive'” (Bradbury 71). The society in the novel Fahrenheit 451 is different as their society has outright denied the human brains the books it craves to read. There are several other differences between our societies the road laws are drastically different, the fireman are polar opposites, and the war is different.
But in this society the government bring people were they are told because of a crime. The three main topics were book burning, equality, and government bringing people somewhere for no reason or crime. The burning of these banned books is meant to be a way of censoring targeted ideas and messages in a dystopian society. Similarly, our society has once tried to censor certain books by creating a banned book list in the United States. This list challenged books that mentioned controversial topics, and the ideas from these books were silence and censored from the public. Another similar trait shared by our society and the society in Fahrenheit 451 is how media and technology have made an impact on the functioning of society.
The Protestant Reformation was the most important reformation to ever occur in religious history. It changed the way the world at Catholicism forever. It also gave birth to the many variations of the religion of Protestantism. Some of which being, Baptist, non-denominational, Lutheranism, and many more like it; these being the most popular. The Protestant Reformation aimed to reform the beliefs and practices of the Roman catholic church.
Today, On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, I attended a beginning of the school year healthcare meeting. The annual meeting was conducted by one of the school nurses and it included all of the second grade teachers. Before today’s meeting I had never attended a health care meeting, but I certainly knew of the importance of having a good relationship and communication between school nurses and educators. A teacher’s responsibility includes so many variables including and foremost a student’s care and safety. Additionally, School nurses help educators in ensuring and caring for student’s and their healthcare needs.
The differences and similarities between the book’s society and our modern day society really bulged out at me while I was reading the book ‘Fahrenheit 451’. In Fahrenheit 451, books are banned. And instead of having firemen that put out fire, the firemen start the fire to burn down books and houses. There are many differences and similarities between our modern day society and the the society in the book ‘Fahrenheit 451’. Such as our Government, Technology, and Behavior.
In Fahrenheit 451, there are many obvious differences in the dystopian society that the novel takes place in, and our present day society. However, there are also many overlooked similarities in the societies. Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is both different, and alike our modern day societies. Initially, the America that the novel takes place in is much more of an authoritarian society then present day America.
