Who is Elie Weisel? Weisel is a Holocaust survivor and an inspiration to everyone. “Elie Weisel is a Noble-Prize winning writer, teacher, and activist known for the memoir Night, in which he recounts his experiences survivnig the Holocaust” (Biography.com Editors). “Elie Weisel was born Elizer Weisel on September 30, 1928, in Sighet, Transylvania, which would later become Romania” (Biography.com Editors). During WWII when Weisel was only fifteen his family and him were relocated to Auschwitz.
Elie’s Permuting Purpose The novel Night is the personal tale of Elie Wiesel as a Jew during the holocaust. Night shows the changes someone can go through during extreme times in their life. Elie Wiesel at the beginning of the novel was only twelve years old, and full of innocence living in Sighet, Transylvania. After Elie’s teacher is taken away by the Hungarians, he returns months later to tell the other Jews about how the Gestapo made Jews dig their own graves and the police executed them there, but he escaped, but none of the other Jews believed him.

Eliezer “Elie” Wiesel was born on September 30, 1928 in Sighet, Romania. He lived with his parents Shlomo and Sarah Wiesel and his three sisters Tzipora, Beatrice, and Hilda. Before, Elie and his family were taken to a concentration camp, he did his religious Judaism studies at a yeshiva. In May 1994 when Elie was only 15 years old his family was taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland.
