Taoism or Daoism is a Chinese philosophy as well as a religious tradition deeply rooted in the Chinese culture and worldview for more than 2,000 years originated in the Warring Period and came into being in Eastern Han Dynasty. Its founder was Laozi (also known as Lao Tzu) and its doctrines are based on his writings, the ‘Tao teaching’. The main idea is about the Tao which is the Way, but it is impossible to determine which “Way” it is talking about. Some say that it is the Universal Creative Principle to which everything else is unified and connected. It is a religion of unity and opposites; Yin and Yang. The principle of Yin-Yang sees the world as filled with complementary forces - action and non-action, light and dark, hot and cold, and so on. It’s much more than worshipping several Gods, Goddesses, and deities. It is a guidance or a path to lead life in a specific manner which is beneficial for the individual as well as for the society as a whole. Principles and practices in Hinduism are based on individuals’ nature, taking into account the limitation of Human mind and an analysis of what has been attempted to learn about the Reality. What we get from Taoism is more or less the same. One fundamental belief is that the universe, and particulaly the order and harmony found in the universe are evidence of 'Tao', that it is the will of the heavens that things exist. In turn, if everyone does everything in the proper natural and correct way, peace, harmony and effectiveness would be the result. That is the path shown by the teachings of Lao Tzu to lead the life by controlling one’s own mind according to one’s needs.
