Since the dawn of time the catholic church and the muslims have been at war over territory and religious beliefs because the christians believe in worshiping God one way while Muslims believe in worshiping God (Jihad) a different way. When comparing the two people tend to believe that Islam is the only religion that tends to use violence as a means to worship God but in reality Christians have also done terrible, horrific, and unthinkable things in the name of God. For instance The Crusades and The Christian Holy Wars is a perfect example that even Christians have engaged in terrible acts. Between the years of 1095 and 1291 it has been said that eight major invasions against the Middle East were launched. The purpose of these invasions were to save enslaved Christians and take back land they felt rightfully belonged to them. Religion has a powerful impact on soldiers as it served as motivation to do the horrible things they did. They wouldn’t see it as a terrible thing they have done since they believe what they did was justifiable since their act was in the name of God. The Catholic church would also use indulgences as a method for people to join the war because indulgences are a pardon for certain types of sin and a way to reduce the amount of punishment one has to undergo for sins.
