My career over the last 20 years has offered a vast range of opportunities to develop new skills and extend my knowledge. I feel some of the strongest skills I have obtained are that of communication and how to adapt to suit the context and individual, including engaging with professionals during formal meetings and also dealing with those who are more hostile or frustrated due to the situation they face. Working with Suffolk County Council provided me a value to the importance of accurate recording keeping and satisfying legal requirements as I was involved in composing reports for Case Conferences and Child Protection Panel Meetings. Additionally, I am currently required to accurately record all guidance, marking, planning and supports to learner’s to satisfy standards set by the Awarding Body. Both the FDA and BA Hons provided informative modules one of which was the Early Learning module, which allowed me to deepen my knowledge of the value of ICT in primary schools and how it engages children and parents but also the challenges it poses. Education, school, and society really opened my eyes to the ongoing social divide within the UK and the governmental stances on education and the utilisation of capitals amongst classes to secure educational experiences and attainment for children. Issues still exist, with assumptions and judgements being based on race, gender and ethnicity and how children will succeed in the future. Knowing this and the challenges that it poses, it can help to inform practices and allow me, when in the classroom, to hold a greater awareness of the impact this can have and continue to try and challenge
