The Great Gatspy Essay The novel The Great Gatpsy holds many complex characters within its pages. These characters are all problematic in their own way. One character that manages to grasp a reader's attention is Daisy. Daisy also happens to be one of the novels main characters. Daisy is portrayed to be nice, she reveals in the end to be a selfish person. The self-centered Daisy grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Daisy come from old money. This explains why Daisy looks down on people with "new" money. When the reader is first introduced to Daisy, she is married to Tom Buchanan. Together, Tom and Daisy share a daughter, Pammy. Tom and Daisy are currently living in East Egg, they hope to make this a permanent stay. The characters that Daisy finds herself surrounded with, all have their own difficult situations. Which they are all currently in, Daisy included. Daisy finds herself stuck in a marriage, that contains a cheating husband. While one would expect Daisy to be seething, she is okay with it. The reason for this is, because Tom is filthy rich. He comes with a great social standing and a certified wealthy life. Daisy believes women are worth more, when they play the dutiful wife role. She says this about her daughter, " I hope she'll be a fool - that's the best thing a women can be in this world, a beautiful little fool." Chapter 1, Page 17. …show more content…

Our narrator, Nick, believes Daisy to be a dad and egotistical women. Nicks sees Daisy one to never speak up or leave Tom, because he offers stability. When Nick gives his final thoughts on Daisy - and Tom - he calls them destructive and careless. "They were careless people, Tom and Daisy - they smashed things and creatures up and then retreated back to their money and carelessness…" Chapter 9, Pages
