One Union leader was Ulysses S. Grant. He was “commander in chief of the Union army” (Stoff 505). Grant helped the course of the war by being determined to win. Also he thought of the idea to “wage total war against the south” (Stoff 508). This meant that “civilians in the south suffered the same hardships as the army” (Stoff 508).
The Civil War was a battle of great importance to our history of the United States. On April 12th, 1861 this battle broke out between the Union States, North, and the Confederate States, such as the South. The Civil War took place all throughout the United states, and did not come to an end until the Union won the war on May 9, 1856. So, our question of “What caused the Civil War”, comes with three important answers. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were Economic, Social, and Political differences.
One leader for the Confederacy was Jefferson Davis. He contributed to the course and outcome of the Civil War by leading the Confederates, most people think he was a stronger leader than Abraham Lincoln, mainly because he was in the United States MIlitary Academy at West Point. Also he was a officer during the Mexican War. Then he helped try to win the war by serving as Secretary of War under the 14th president Franklin Pierce, additionally Jefferson Davis was widely respected for his courage and for his honesty. One leader for the Union was president Abraham Lincoln.
General Samuel Lee was perhaps the most prominent. General Lee was perhaps more qualified military personal than Washington to lead the rebel’s army, he served in the British Army fighting in several wars including the Seven Years War. He came to America because he thought that he would be made a leader, however he was dismayed when he learned that he would be under George Washington’s orders. After the battle at Fort Washington, Lee has even less confidence in Washington and believes he should be the man that will lead the troops to victory. Colonel Joseph Reed writes a letter to General Lee, supporting his ideas of a change in leadership.

Before the Civil War, people's different attitudes toward slavery and the system of the nation caused separation of the nation into two parts, the North and the South. Some Southern states seceded from the United States and formed their nation called Confederacy. The North was trying to get the South back, however, the South claimed their new nation to be accepted.

The North had beaten the South in the Civil War. The North won the war for many reasons; they had some advantages over the South, a great leader, and the desire to win. The North and South fought many battles before the Civil War ended. Each battle had a different outcome and some encouraging the fight and some ended in despair.
With the Mississippi River heavily fortified, Grant sidestepped the Rebels by travelling up the Tennessee and Cumberland River, capturing Fort Henry and Fort Donelson, the first major Union victory.” He was one of the many leaders from the North. For the south their general was Robert E. Lee, he was an American and a south side soldier; he was also a general in the south. He had many battles and was considered the most successful and victorious general. He controlled and ordered the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War from 1862; until his later surrender in 1865 to the north Americans.
April 12, 1961, marked one of the most historical events that have ever occurred in the United States -the Civil War. This war was fought by the Union (Northern states) and the Confederates (Southern states). Several factors contributed to the clash of both sides, such include: trades, tariffs, states’ rights, and the idea of slavery. After four years of fighting, the Southern states lied under complete destruction. On May 9, 1865, the fighting was over -the Union had won the war.
Important Women and their Role in the Civil War The American Civil war lasted for four years from 1861-1865. The war occurred because of a controversy on differences of beliefs, with the primary reason being slavery and state’s rights. The war resulted in the killing of over 600,000 soldiers. The war had a lot of advances in American culture.
After the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 and the rise of the Republican party, Southerners feared the tipping of the balance of political power against them; their need for self-determination parallel the colonists’ belief of rebelling against the oppressive government of Great Britain. However, the Civil War represented something more: the clash of the feudalistic, agrarian South with the industrialized, capitalistic North. These two powers differed socially, politically, and economically, and were especially conflicted over slavery. These two sections of the United States were divided against one another, and could not survive this way. Therefore, it is more accurate to state that though the Civil War resembled some aspects of the American Revolution, it was a clash between two forces who could not exist with one another in their current state, leading inevitably to conflict between the

The war between the states as in the civil war, pitted neighbor against neighbor. By the time it ended the confederate surrender in 1865. The civil war proved to be the coolest war ever fought in america as in the whole world. With 2.4 million soldiers killed, millions more injured. The population and territory of the south devastated.

The main issues leading up to the Civil War were Missouri’s statehood, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the Election of 1860. One of the main causes of the Civil War was the issue of Missouri becoming a state.
