In medieval literature female desire can be expressed through clothes and Marie De France uses this imagery to illustrate Lanval's desire towards the women he is approached by throughout the poem. "They were richly dressed, tightly laced, in tunics of dark purple" (lines57-59). The detailed descriptions of the women's clothing symbolize wealth and power, similar to what Lanval truly desires. The knight is escorted up to the tent where Marie uses a "golden eagle" to further illustrate the power and wealth of the lady. Marie describes her clothing or lack of clothing: "she had thrown over herself, a precious cloak of white ermine, covered with purple alexandrine, but her whole side was uncovered" (lines101-104).
Either way, we shall be focusing on how the production features help create Westley in The Princess Bride. Considering this, filmmakers utilize costumes, acting, camera angles and shots to help develop Westley. Costumes play a huge role in this movie, they portray many features about the characters. Westley’s costume tells us a lot about him, this can be his mask and the sword, the black pigment of his costume and slightly ripped costumes.
These things are vital to the play and Alex’s overall character as it hints and reminds us of his personal traits and interests. I have chosen baggy straight jeans, a short shaggy button up shirt and a caucasian blond man as he is described as a white Australian, the clothes were also common in the youth of 1990 where the play is placed in. This quote from Alex " A lot of people would. I might. I don't know
Throughout the book his attitude towards the jacket changes as he learns to accept it. The main idea where this is portrayed is when he calls the jacket “that green ugly brother who breathed over my shoulder that day and ever since.” This quote also uses personification to describe his new feelings towards his jacket. The figurative language extends the understanding of his new reaction to the jacket by being able to relate to their own lives
He liked to wear custom fitted suits, it was one of his
It was said that the ladies liked him very much because of the garment he wore. It was an early version of the leotard. Like the leotards today the garment stretched tight to fit him and showed his mussels hence why the ladies liked him.
Conan The Destroyer: Aesthetics In the movie Conan The Destroyer, the different aspects of the costume design are essential and enhance the whole viewing experience because not only does it display the medieval setting of the movie, but also it displays the different characteristics of each character. For example, Zula’s vest with spikes and armed gear illustrates her strong warrior personality, while the bracelets on her arm show her inner femininity. The mixture of warrior and femininity is really important in this film, as it shows that females are strong too and males are not the only ones who can fight. On the other hand, Jenna’s long, silky dress and fur coat shows her wealthy lifestyle and her royalty.
When she committed her acts of adultery, or was abused by her husband, she was seen in a still dark colored risque sleep set. Her costume was an important factor for her character because she didn’t want people to see her as an adulteress even though she committed multiple scandalous acts continuously throughout the production. Even when she downright wished death upon another being, she simply put her dress back on to hide from being haunted by her terrors and played the victim. Overall the cast and crew did a great job of keeping the audience on their toes.

Conan and the Castle of Terror was the story I read this week, it is a mixture between fantasy and horror. It focuses on a warrior giant that travels a long distance, trying to get to the land of Kush. The point the story starts he has already been traveling for 8 days, and encounters troubles. A pack of lions chase him, and he ends up running into an ancient, dark, deserted castle. After some investigation, he knows the castle belong to a species other than any he knew.
Another source was an interest in the style of clothing worn at Ivy League colleges. In his biography he wrote: "I loved the oldness, the custom mood of navy blazers, school crests, rep ties, flannels, and saddle shoes." which he translated a style often favored by older white men into a look that’s suited for anyone. This fueled his vision for clothing and once said of his style, “I’m interested in longevity, timelessness, style—not
Additionally, in the film, Pocahontas wore a scandalous short dress that would have been unheard of in her time (Hirschfelder, A., Molin, P., & Wakim, 1999). Overall, Disney’s
Before she is able to meet with the Matchmaker, she must dress up and apply makeup on herself to make herself look beautiful and strong-willed. Critic, Nandini Maity, states in her article, Damsels in Distress: A Textual Analysis of Gender roles in Disney Princess Films, that Disney uses the princesses or heroines in each princess movie to demonstrate how women should act, dignified and beautiful. By doing so, it portrays how Disney has a set purpose to make society understand that women should always act this way in society, that they should be helped out by men. While Mulan is being washed and dressed, the women helping her “sing to Mulan a song called Honour us all, a song that imposes the traditional roles onto Mulan. They say that women should have tiny waists, be calm, and obedient.

Everyone played along and said that the outfit was so worthy and magnificent while nobody actually saw anything. However, the child was the only one to admit that the king was not wearing clothes because everyone else was afraid that people would think that they are impure; but with that one confession everyone was finally able to say the truth. Oh the “self-delusion of adults and the literal-mindedness of children” (‘Spotlight on Literary Elements’). In simpler terms, most adults seem to fail to recognize reality, while children tend to take everything literally (kind of like how Amelia
