Classical music is serious or conventional music following long-established principles rather than a folk, jazz, or popular tradition. For my Concert Report I chose the following five songs, Gaude Maria virgo, David’s Lamentation, Dies irae, from Requiem, The Nutcracker, two dances, and Psalm 24. Guade Maria virgo (Rejoice Mary, virgin) is an early 13th century, Medieval. The genre is Organum for three voices. It is an A cappella with a monophonic and three-part polyphony texture. This song is Notre Dame composers’ style piece. At the very beginning of the song you can already hear the A cappella, you can tell it begins with three voices coming together. A cappella is without instrumental accompaniment. I didn't really care for this piece …show more content…
This piece is a homorhythmic, four-part chorus, with solos and duets. This piece made me sad, he is grieving over the death of his son. I like this piece a lot more than the first one I had mentioned. You can tell that loosing his son had taken a huge toll on him. Dies irae, from Requiem 1971 (unfinished) by Mozart is a piece performed by a chorus, four soloists, and orchestra. Genre: Requiem Mass, this was left unfinished due to the death of Mozart. At the beginning of this piece there is a dramatic choral opening, then it goes into different solos. Throughout the piece i feel like it gets quieter and less dramatic. The beginning makes you feel very on edge and kinda angry, and as the piece goes on you kinda start to calm down and feel upset. This piece is my favorite out of the 5 that I have chosen, I loved the dramatic opening. The Nutcracker, two dances 1892, was composed by Tchaikovsky. Genre: Ballet music from orchestral suite. The dance tune is heard clearly because it is in homophonic texture. This piece has a mixture of instruments to make it have that energetic tune, those pieces are the low strings, bass clarinet, and bassoon playing the melodic line. This song always reminds me of Christmas time or some movies that it is played in. This piece makes me happy and kinda hypes you
