Leadership has a significant role in society. It's the only things that unites everyone together. In the Lord of the Flies the conch is used to help form a society. It kept everything in order and gave everyone tasks they need to do. Without the conch in Lord of the Flies all of them wouldn’t have work together. Leadership is needed in a society to function. Also the conch stands for justice and equality. The conch is what keeps everyone in check. In the novel Lord of Flies there is a conch that is supposed to represent leadership, order, and equality. In Golding's Lord of the Flies, leadership is needed in society to functions as shown through, “"Him with the shell."

In the quote it says that anyone can speak ask long as they got the conch. In other words the conch enables them to talk and have a say in what they are doing without anyone objecting him. In Golding's Lord of the Flies, the conch created order among the boys as shown through, “The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist.”(Golding 141). At this point in the novel society broke. This was shown from the conch shattering. Since the conch represents order, leadership, and equality, it breaking shows that society itself is broken. After this occurred in the novel the boys became uncivilized. For example the savages(boys) tried to hunt and kill Ralph.
