The Civil War was a war between the Union and Confederate over slavery that started April 1, 1861. The historical question is who started the civil war and i believe the confederates started it. The start of the civil war started with the confederate firing upon Fort Sumters. But some believe that the Confederate attack was justified because the union sent a fleet of ships with food to resupply Fort Sumters so the Confederates were defending from a future attack. The Confederates started the Civil War because the Confederates fired upon the fort first, even with warning from the Union.
The Civil War started in 1861 and lasted until 1865. It was the goury war fought in the United States. More than 600,000 soldiers were killed in this war. The civil war was fought between the Union, which was the Northern States called the United States of America, and the Southern States which were called the Confederate States of America. The main reason for the war was slavery, but other significant factors played a role in the war too.
The southern secession from the Union increased pressure between the South (Confederacy) and the North (Union). The South’s attempts on withdrawal proved the fact that the South and the North were destined to fall apart after growing tensions between the two sides. For years, historians have been debating the point if the South had the right to secede from the Union. While some historians argue that the South could leave due to legality, others claim that it is a breaking the Constitutional Oath that the states would stay together. The secession of the Confederacy was a primary cause of the civil war.
Many people think the Civil War of 1860-1865 was fought over one issue alone, slavery. Nothing could actually be further from the truth. The War Between the States began because the South demanded States' rights and were not getting them. The Congress at that time heavily favored the industrialized northern states to the point of demanding that the South sell is cotton and other raw materials only to the factories in the north, rather than to other countries.
The Confederate States attempted to legislate against slave insurrection, which led into the Civil War. The Civil War was between the Confederate States and the Union States. During the Civil War, there were many fears because of the insurrection, affects toward the industries, affects toward food production and distribution, and there were many demands that needed to be met, such as men being drafted, and food being produced. The Emancipation Proclamation of 1862 granted freedom to the slaves in the Confederate States if the States did not return to the Union. Freedom would also only come to the slaves if the Union won the war.
The South was completely unjustified for seceding from the North. This is because of slavery being unconstitutional, the South’s dependence on the North, and the fact that so few wanted slavery. Slavery was completely unconstitutional. For example, according to document 9, “(T)he fifth amendment to the Constitution...provides that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, and property without due process of law...which prohibited a citizen from holding and owning property of this kind (slaves)...” These are exact words from the Constitution stating that slavery is illegal and “prohibited” under law.
Although the Union’s aim in entering the Civil War was to hold the nation together, the Southern States originally seceded largely because of rising tensions about slavery caused by several key events. Prior to the mid-1800s the government had been skirting around slavery issues and attempting to pacify both sides, but eventually irrepressible problems began to arise and tempers flared, leading to the Civil War in 1861. In the years following the Louisiana Purchase, westward expansion brought up a need to develop a policy concerning the regulation of slave and free territories. At the time, slave states and free states had equal representation, and the addition of a new state could disrupt the balance.

The Confederate Flag One of the most debated topics throughout American history is about what the Confederate flag represents. Some people believe that it represents Southern pride, while others see it as a sign of hate towards African- Americans. The Confederate flag can be used as a symbol of white supremacy, but can also be seen as a tribute to fallen Confederate soldiers. Now, the Confederate flag wasn’t seen as such a terrible thing when it was first created.
Charleston Shooting and Confederate Flag Debate The ongoing controversy of the Confederate flag began again on June 17th, as Dylann Roof entered an African American church in Charleston, South Carolina, and shot and killed nine people including the church 's pastor. After the shooting, pictures were taken of Roof holding up the Confederate flag as a symbol of racism and white supremacy. The act drove our nation into outrage as racially offended people called for the removal of the flag.
