In both of the stories Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun, the main characters get mad at their parents. In Tortilla Sun, Izzy does not want to move with her grandmother when her mom goes away for work. She thinks this is unfair and thinks that her mom does not care what she wants. In the story Confetti Girl, the father is always bringing up things about English and school. His daughter does not like that it is all he seems to care about. In both stories, the differences in point of view create tension. In the story Confetti Girl, the father only talks about English class. The girl gets upset with this because she does not want to talk about the same thing every time. In the story her father says “Nonsense. I’ve got a copy somewhere. Let me look” (25).This brings tension because her father leaves the table in the middle of dinner just to look for a book. His daughter gets mad and does not like that he is so obsessed with English. In the story she says “I guess. Maybe. Super..super. super something. Can’t remember” (15). She says this when her dad asks her about a vocabulary word. This shows she is not very amused in it and does not have an interest in talking about it.
