Conflict Resolution Action Plan

Introduction Problem solving and conflict resolution go hand and hand with each other. A person needs problem solving skills in order to be able to have meaningful conflict resolution. According to research the definition of problem solving is “the process of working through details of a problem to reach a solution” (What is problem solving? definition and meaning). This paper will cover one problem solving model that can help in creating an action plan for conflict resolution. The general education teacher does not feel that the accommodations are needed in her classroom or that they are showing to be effective. Since the student does have an IEP the goals and accommodations are something that should be used every day. If the general education teacher feels that the accommodations are not effective why has the teacher not suggested that the accommodations be changed to be more effective in her classroom. In research it is found that the IEP is:
A statement of a child’s present level of performance, the child’s annual educational goals, includes the special education support and services that the school will provide, the modifications and accommodations the school will provide. (Understanding Individualized Education Programs, 2014)
If the IEP is not being followed that can be a big conflict not just between the teachers but also for the student.

For this we see that the potential cause of the problem could be some miscommunication between the general education teacher and the special education teacher. We need to ask the question of did the general education teacher attend the students IEP meeting where she would have had the opportunity to speak of different accommodations that might be better suited for her classroom. In finding a different approach for the problem we need to consider the general education teachers side of the story that she feels that the accommodations are not really helping the student in her classroom. In order to solve the problem a meeting should be held monthly between the general education teacher and the special education teacher to talk over the progress of the student and to bring up any concerns that either teacher might be having. The two teachers should talk about other accommodations that could be made that might be more helpful to the student. To verify if the problem has been fixed this can be done through the monthly meetings between the two teachers and looking over the students school
