Resolution Strategies Conflict resolution strategies involve establishing or restoring communication, interpersonal relationships, cultural competence, empathy and trust (Frates, 2014). In this study, Mr. Edwards and Ms. Jones’ decision to exclude the medial director and other physicians in the overall decision to terminate Dr. Harris was unethical leadership practice. Knowing that physicians play a critical role in controlling cost (Frates, 2014), this is where the six styles of conflict management identified by Ledlow and Coppola (2014) should be evaluated. Staff members would then analyze the problems together and recommend solutions for managements consideration (Frates, 2014). Since Mr. Edwards and Ms. Jones are both in executive roles, developing a formal plan to guide their decisions (Frates, 2014) would be ideal for this situation. Since physicians play a critical role in cost control, I would call a meeting with the medical director and his staff members to discuss efficient options to implement networks that support an image exchange with the referring physicians (Bolan, 2013). Bolan (2013) estimates that each referring physician contributes about $1.5 million in annual revenue to an imaging center and it is in the interest of radiologists to provide an efficient and convenient system to receive orders from and deliver reports to their referring physicians. Even though this may be a challenge for Mr. Edwards since he doesn’t feel as though the physicians have a great interest in cooperating with him to sustain the viability of the hospital (Frates, 2014), using a more supportive leadership tactic could possibly change the minds of the physicians.
