We live our lives in fear. Some of us fear failure, maybe you fear the dark, others fear heights. While some of humanities fears may be irrational, there is no denying that everyone experiences fear. But how does fear affect us? How does it affect our actions?
Everyone has fear but people can use fear as a good thing. Fear can even save
Fear is something that controls almost everyone. People are always worried about being harmed in some way. Fear guiding our actions is shown in The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, 1984 by George Orwell, and Supergirl a TV Show. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is narrated by death as it tells the story of a young girl getting adjusted to life in Germany with her new family. 1984 by George Orwell is the story of Winston, a party member, in the time of Big Brother, the ruler.
Human 's fears should not be taken lightly. Fear could do anything to one 's minds, though without fear, man can be as savage as animals. In the book Lord of the Flies, William Golding presented fear of the unknown to be a powerful force in a man 's mind. Fear of the unknown is a powerful force, which can turn to either insight or hysteria. The kids feared of not being rescued off of the island, so they made signal fires on top of the mountain.
Sam Robert in the article, A Decade of Fear, argues that Americans turned against each other because of McCarthyism. Robert supports his claim by explaining, contrasting, and demonstrating the effects that McCarthyism had on humanity. The author’s purpose is to persuade in order to convince the reader that McCarthyism sparked betrayal and fear among Americans. The author writes in a tone for his educated audience. I strongly agree with Robert’s claim.
Fear is a positive influence on people because it motivates them to promote change and helps people unite. People are influenced to unite in times when fear is present. “We pledge to do all we can to help you heal the injured, to rebuild this city and to bring to justice those who did this evil.” (Bill Clinton). Tragic events such as The Oklahoma City Bombing struck fear in many people, these tragic events “are the dark forces that threaten our common peace.”
Fear can lead to many things. It may lead to you making harsh decision and be very closed minded. But overall, our fear can blind society from the truth and keep them from getting justice. We see most of this in many cases. We mostly saw this occur in the book The crucible by Arthur Miller, the Central Park five and as well with McCarthyism.
Fear is a powerful emotion which controls human beings. Throughout history fear has depicted the outcome of society because few people live with no fear. During horrific events including the Salem Witch Trials, McCarthyism and the ongoing battle against terrorism fear was a response to uncertainty. The Salem Witch Trials were the unfair hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft, these trials were expressed in the Crucible written by Arthur Miller. McCarthyism was when thousands of Americans were accused of being communists, the event was portrayed in the movie Guilty By Suspicion.
Fear is perhaps the strongest force within humans- something that is an undeniable influence on our decision making process, whether those decisions may be major or minor. Fear comes into play both consciously and subconsciously; both practically and non practically; it is not always 100% apparent but it is the drive behind so much more of our thought process than we actually realize. This is not only human nature but the nature of animals, too. It is a force we cannot escape, whether is comes in reflexes or is something we avidly dwell on, so we’ve instead explored and embraced the wonders of this thing called fear.
The Fear of Reality Fear dominates various aspects of life. It can elicit physiological and emotional responses that greatly influence an individual’s reaction. For example, fear can cause an individual to experience an adrenaline rush that gives someone an extra burst of energy to lift a car or quickly flee from a situation. Fear can also cripple an individual by producing intense feelings of anxiety and nervousness.
Humans are born to be afraid. A feeling of fear is only natural for humans to feel; it is a part of who we are. However, it can be more than just a feeling. Fear can be a weakness in humans even though it is only our natural instinct for survival. Sometimes, fear is so powerful that it can blur our rationality and dominate how we think and what we do.
Fear, something we all have. Behind fear is a basic human instinct; self-preservation, the will to live that makes us pause before hurling ourselves over the edge into the unknown. It is something that has the power to push us past our breaking point yet manages to keep us alive. Fear is a good motivator as evidenced by the characters in Arthur Miller’s Play, “The Crucible”. At times, fear motivates people to behave irrationally.

Fear can be defined as an unpleasant feeling triggered by a situation. It is an emotion encountered by every human being. However, the reactions of people to fear may vary. Indeed, it ranges from the loss of rationality to the capacity of adaptation in extreme conditions. Thus, fear can be perceived as a weapon to control and manipulate society.
Fear and suspicion can cause many harmful outcomes, and possibly destroying a whole society. There are many different examples, but a very good example is in the story The Crucible by Arthur Miller. In The Crucible, fear was the main reason the village faced many witchcraft incidents, and it played a major role in placing many people in jail or getting them killed. Through one of the trials a women named Tituba gets accused of witchcraft by one of the girls, so out of fear she accuses many other people that have nothing to do with any witchcraft activities. And that was the process that was used by almost everyone in the community.
