In the short story The Cask of Amontillado, the main character Montresor shows that his connoisseurship goes well and beyond the fine wines, and simple delicacies. He approaches revenge as a form of art. This first shows when Montresor, describes deviously, how he will punish Fortunato for the many injuries he now possesses. Then, he meets Fortunato at the carnival and greets him like an old friend. However, Montresor conceals his true views of Fortunato long enough to lure him into catacombs.
