“ You don’t understand me. You are not expected to. You are not capable of it. I am beyond your experience.”- Richard Ramirez. How long can you get away with murder before getting caught? There are many serial killers that were never caught, like the Zodiac Killer, Jack the Ripper, and the Long Island Killer. They were able to commit horrific crimes and taunt the police; and were able to get away with it. One may think they are incredibly smart, but most of them have an average IQ. In the book The Big Book of Serial Killers: 150 Serial Killers Files of the worlds worst murderers: Jack Rosewood, claimed that the reason there is a huge misconception that all serial killers being genius come from those who are highly intelligent like Ted Bundy, …show more content…

Were they born like this or were they created by the environment they were brought up in? According to my research, the answer is both. In the article, “What can neuroscience tell us about the mind of a serial killer?” By John Parrington, he argues that serial killers characteristically lack empathy for others. Even if they are showing empathy, it is usually fake, as they are master manipulators and actors. When looking at Ted Bundy he had a certain type. According to the article “Do all serial killers have a type” an interview conducted by Stephen Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth for the book Ted Bundy: conversation with a killer, Ted said that the only shared attribute among his victims was that they were “young and fairly attractive.” Another serial killer that had a distinct type was Jeffery Dahmer he usually went after young minority homosexual men with the exception of his first kill. Dahmer told Inside Edition in 1993 “ I always knew that it was wrong. The first killing was not planned.” However, when looking into Richard Ramriez (The Night Stalker) he didn’t really have a type of victim he would go after. He went after men, women, and children there was no age or race that was off limits for him. With that being said they were mostly women or couples. He would kill the man first and then rape the women followed by brutally murdering them. He would then proceed to help himself to a snack after the
