When looking for a career that not only helps people but loves the outdoors, a conservation officer would be a wise choice to consider. Many people do not realize how crucial a conservation officer’s job actually is. There are many things someone should think about when deciding if a conservation officer career is the right choice for them. A conservation officer would be a good career choice for someone that would enjoy the outdoors and protecting the future generations’ environment. Often times a conservation officer ensures that recreational motorist, boaters, hunters and fisherman are following all laws. If a violation is noted citations can be issued by the conservation officer if they are working at the state or federal level. Community education is a service that is provided by conservation officers. Specifically, hunter safety and boater safety courses are taught to community members. Another area an officer could go into is the research field. A conservation officer is an expert in the area of wildlife and can enter and interpret biological and environmental data related to plants, animals and the environment. Services are also need in a state of emergency and natural disasters such as wildfires. This is a good amount less than a police officer would make, which is about 58,000 a year. Both a conservation officer and police officer require a great deal of physical and mental strength. These professions also can be very dangerous. Conservation officers face danger on rescue calls and many times there is a slow response time when backup is needed.(Dangers Involved) Conservation officers encounter hunters and put themselves at risk for being shot. Usually gunshots are by accident but on rare occasion the shot is intentional. Police officers also face many dangers on the job, they are one of the highest rated work related injuries in the industry.
