In the 1970’s and the 1980’s there were many groups that created a new conservative political base. One of the groups were newly conservatives and they went by the name of the neoconservatives. They were a group of intellectuals that claimed the 1960’s had produced a decline in the moral standards as well as the respect for authority. They also believed that well-intentioned government social programs were more harmful rather than good. The majority of the new conservative base were suburban white people .
