Aiden Ledford Ms. McCole 1st block 11 March 2024 Reptilians Among Us There are numerous conspiracy theories circulating throughout the world but one lesser known conspiracy is that of lizard people. Although there are many different iterations of the theory, the basis is that there are reptilians hidden among us that are trying to gain control of the world. Conspiracy theories are started due to human evolution to notice patterns. People are “often tempted to find intentional meanings where there may not be any” (PatrickJMT). They become popular for the same reason. Conspiracy theories allow people to make sense of things that may not make sense to them. Humans have a natural fear of reptiles, namely, snakes. Vanessa LoBue, a postdoctoral fellow in psychology at the University of Virginia, told LiveScience, “The idea is that throughout evolutionary history, humans that learned quickly to fear snakes would have been at an advantage to survive and reproduce.” Those who feared snakes passed those genes on to their children, which shows clear evidence of survival at the fittest. Leading up to modern day, people’s natural fear of snakes has combined with trying to make sense of what they believe is disorder. The fear of reptiles has grown and is likely why many are susceptible to being afraid of reptiles trying to take over the world.. The natural fear of snakes is deeply rooted in humans and can help explain why people believe reptilian humanoids are trying to influence society.
