Water heaters heaters have changed a lot over time and there's always a constant battle of which water heater is better for a family. There are different methods to heat your water and the 2 most common ways are electric and gas water heaters. It's always about which ones more efficient and how to save the most money but it mostly all depends on where you live and the prices for electricity and gas prices.
The first water heater was invented in 1870 by Benjamin Waddy Maughan and with help from Edwin Ruud. It was a gas instantaneous water heater that was very dangerous it wasn't vented well so the gasses would get in the house and kill people. Edwin Ruud then created the automatic storage water heater. When Edwin finished his product he moved

Each water heater is efficient in its own way like tankless water heaters they only heat hot water when you need it unlike gas water heaters and electric which heat the water every few hours. Tankless water heaters work by when a hot water fixture is turned on water goes into the heater and a coil will heat the pipe the water is going through and that's how the water is heated(“Tankless or Demand”). Tankless water heaters heat 2-5 gallons of water a minute. If you have a big appliance running that uses hot water like a dishwasher and you want to take a shower the water pressure would be very low tha usually and the water won't be as hot. This type of water heater can last up to 15 years of use. A conventional storage water heater is a basic water heater that could be powered by either propane natural gas fuel or electricity. The tank can hold 20-80 gallons of water and there's two different sizes small and large. The small tank is for small families and everyday use and the larger tank is for bigger families with …show more content…
It's cheaper to live in a warmer climate that is always sunny because the solar panel will absorb the sun if you live in a place that gets snow or a place that's always cloudy it won't be as efficient. Having one of these in the cold will damage the water heater the water will freeze and when it starts the melt it will split the copper pipe. The water heater provides about 85% of the hot water. There's 2 types of solar water heaters direct circulation and and indirect circulation. Direct circulation runs water through the collectors and the goes into the house. Indirect circulation is more for homes that deal with freezing temperatures there's a fluid that goes through the whole system so the water doesn't freeze while not in use(“solar water heating”). Solar water heaters can either be found on a roof or on the ground next to a house. The solar water heater works by getting water from the water main going into a pump that goes up to the solar panel. From the solar panel it goes down into a storage tank and when you turn on a fixture that needs hot water the water will go into a water heater then straight to the fixture(“tankless or
