In today’s society, consumers are more concerned about their privacy and how the government regulates businesses with the technology that has become one of the most powerful tools for development. Many developed countries around the world such as the United States, China, France and others have an advance and developed technology. However, technology can be very dangerous if it is not properly regulated. Companies have been using technologies to advertise and to growth faster since the 19th century. Online media such as social networks have become a potential source of advertisements for companies, which is very sensitive and can cause harm when they are abusively used, for example violation of consumers’ privacy, and cyberattack or cyber criminality. Commercial speeches are strongly protected under the 1st amendment, but there is a need for laws that address and protect the collection of consumers’ data. The idea of businesses’ self-regulations promoted by the Capitalism “free market” has led to an unethical behavior of businesses toward consumers. In this market, there is no regulation to protect consumers from improper conduct of businesses. However, protecting consumers’ privacy needs a combination of effort that include government, businesses, and individuals.
