The Bible is filled with anachronisms and contradictions in the narrative. These are literary contradictions in which something was stated that belonged to a different time period or when one finds in one story, information that disrupts the logic of the narrative. First of, the Judges are warriors who must fight. Their purpose is to educate the people of Israel. The Hebrew word for Judges is Shoftimn who have military and legal authorization and also serve to restore the estate of freedom that was lost from the people of Israel. There is a very specific cycle in this Book that can be described as the main theological theme and cycle of the Book of Judges. First, the people are sinners because they idolize and worship all material things instead of worshiping Yhwh who they should praise above all things. Because of this, Yhwh will punish those who do not worship Him above all and thus he will lead them to many misfortunes. Once those who have sinned against Yhwh are punished, they will cry out to Yhwh to repent their sins and beg for forgiveness. At that point, He will send a Judge to deliver the people from their misery in which they will then find their salvation. But, this is not a cycle that only takes its course once. Instead, the Book of Judges describes the cycle as being continuous and never ending. The people, will continue to sin, get punished, beg for forgiveness by crying out to Yhwh, and will then reach their salvation when the Judges come to deliver them from oppression. In my opinion, the main theme and purpose of this book is to show how man will cry out to God when he is in misery, but once he is saved, he will continue to sin and repeat the cycle
