This story (of mice and men) is about 2 friends that have been together for a long time. One friend is named George, George is like a big brother to the little brother named Lennie, Lennie is a little slow so he really doesn’t know what he really does. In this essay I'm going to be writing about whether or not students should be able to read Of Mice and Men based on the subject matter which is justified if George had a good reason in killing Lennie. I'm going to give my opinions on this book, so one reason you could have justified into George killing Lennie would be religion. If Lennie wanted to die then it would have been a reason and that reason is Euthanasia
Being forced to kill someone would be really emotional, but imagine if that person was your best friend. In John Steinbeck’s book “Of Mice and Men” George and Lennie have been together since they were kids. Lennie idolized George and George, as often as he gets mad at him, still loves Lennie. They run from their old town of Weed to get a job as ranch hands in Salinas Valley. From there they meet many people, most of which welcomed them, while some had a harder time accepting them.

The book, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, involves many pivotal relationships. Certain relationships demonstrate why they can be so important. The dynamics of all of the relationships prove such significant parts in the way the story flows. The most important relationship in this book is between George and Lennie. Their relationship is almost a domino effect for everything that happens.
John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men highlights the adventures of two best friends that stimulate modern issues such as white males dominating the world. There are many themes in the book, but one that is the most eye catching is the theme of people with differences being ostracized by society. This theme of society ostracizing different people is shown through Lennie’s disability, and Crooks’ color of skin. Lennie is a large migrant worker who is childish due to his mental disability. His best friend George, who acts like his second hand, helps him through everything in life.

Steinbeck once again returns to his biological perception of the human. “The attack on us set in motion the most powerful species drive we know - that of survival” (Steinbeck). “By attacking us, they destroyed their greatest ally, our sluggishness, our selfishness, and our disunity” (Steinbeck). Steinbeck alludes self-critically to the American maneuvering and indifference during the first two years of WWII.
Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men (1937), uses symbolism, characterization, and plot to represent the death of the American dream. Steinbeck uses halter chains as a symbol of slavery and oppression that reminds readers that the American dream of freedom is not realized for all people. At the beginning and end of chapter 4, when Crooks is rejected by George and his life is threatened by Curley’s wife, the text says “the halter chains rattled” (Steinbeck 83). At the end of chapter 5, as Candy considers the tragic end that both Curley’s wife and Lennie will come to, the text says, “the horses shifted their feet and rattled the halter chains” (Steinbeck 98). Steinbeck develops the characters of Crooks and Curley’s wife in a way that represents
When you think of tough decisions do you back away or out of the picture? Well certainly in this book there are characters who do both. While you read this, I will be sharing major points in this book where they followed through in these tough decisions. The biggest point in this novel is how decisions are made. Everybody in this book makes a decision.
For this essay I am going to write about the pros and cons about why George and Lennie´s partnership would be good and bad, For this part of the essay I am going to be writing about why I think Lennie and George´s partnership would be beneficial. For example I think that George and Lennie´s partnership would be beneficial because, Lennie does not seem as bright of a person like George. Another reason why I think that their partnership would be beneficial is because George seems tough, and he looks like he can do a lot of things on his own with or without Lennie. But, Lennie looks like he would have a hard time surviving without George because Lennie seems like he has a hard time understanding a lot of things, he could also be a little mentally
Survival is often introduced as a concept of endurance, persistence and perseverance, a textbook idea about simply living or dying. At the inception of human life, merely surviving was imperative and existence was something that humans fought for on a daily basis. But, as we flourish independently, as societies and as a race, the concept of survival is warped, and growth as an individual, as well as coping with everyday hardships and not just traditional examples of adversity such as poverty and destitution are prime examples of survival. In John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, the reader is presented with the idea that survival is not synonymous to staying alive, and moreover, that cultural and societal struggles shape self in accordance with the way we face them. Survival of the fittest is the primordial notion that only the fit have the power and strength to live, and more importantly, thrive in their environment.
The definition of a sympathetic character is one whom the writer expects the reader to identify with and care about, though not necessarily admire. In the novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, Curley’s wife, a main character in the book is blatantly portrayed as an unsympathetic character. This is because they only see her through the men's eyes, who only see her as a tiresome object, owned by her husband. Steinbeck’s portrayal of Curley’s wife is unfair and misogynistic because he only displays her as unintelligent and promiscuous, never has a character have a turning point where they realize she’s more than an object, and he never reveals her true name. The first reason that Steinbeck's portrayal of Curley’s wife is unfair is that he never gives Curley any redeeming personality traits, he only depicts her as unintelligent and promiscuous.
In John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie go through ups and downs within their relationship that changes what they thought their future would hold. From day to day Lennie and George encounter unfortunate plans that could’ve been stopped but were not due to Lennie’s incompetence. In his novel, Steinbeck uses motifs of death and characters’ hands as well as foreshadowing to convey that the best of plans can be overruled by the uncertainty of outside forces, ultimately suggesting that life is unpredictable. Steinbeck develops a motif of death through the many different animals that pass away within the novel as a metaphor for the the demise of Lennie and George’s plans. Lennie is never made out to be a killer, that is until
Of Mice and Men had a tragic, real-life ending. These real-life endings are preferable to me because they give a book a sense of realism. In addition, they give a book an unexpected ending which leaves the reader on somewhat of a cliff-hanger note. Of Mice and Men left readers on somewhat of a cliff-hanger note because George and Lennie’s prospects of owning a ranch were ruined by the events that occurred during the last two chapters. Furthermore, real-life endings help in building the theme of a book.
