Art has been around for centuries, expressed in various ways through different mediums; painting, drawing, photography, music, and so many more. Each having smaller categories within them. One can create a portrait with different types of paint, chalk, pens and pencils, the lens of a camera. A musician can convey a feeling within lyrics, or notes of a song. Separate forms of art, yet if you look closely enough, you can see similarities as well.
The Chapter presents the 1920’s American Dream. It does it since the first page of the chapter, because Gatsby’s quest is about the American Dream, he wants Daisy because her name, class and status, but on the other hand wants money, which is exactly what represents this “Dream’’. The fact that he throws big parties, that he wants money and he is constantly calling for Daisy’s attention represents his quest of reaching the American Dream. What we realise in this chapter is that the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy its all fake, just for the show, because when he finally has her, we see that there is no love, just pure necessity.
The ladies on The View talked about art being a form of expression. Everybody needs everybody to express and communicate about tough situations. One of the ladies talked about a white artist during the Civil War who created paintings that showed how the African Americans were being treated. The Theory Toolbox “Differences” chapter discussed this idea too.
Pentecost has come, The Holy Spirit Has Arrived What Have We Been Waiting for? The message of Pentecost is the message of the resurrection of Christ. Pentecost can be explained as the birthday of the church, where the apostles are empowered by the Holy Spirit go out and spread the good news of Jesus.
Art can even be a reflection of our society. Art shows diversity in a person’s life. That’s exactly what Romare Bearden, August Wilson, as well as myself portrayed into our collage. Without art we would not have true visual beauty. Art encourages kids to express themselves.

I think the new patrons of the arts in the 15th-18th centuries brought diversity to the arts during the Renaissance period. While up until this point the church was the primary commissioner of art works, those works tended to focus on religious iconography and biblical stories, as well as church architecture and works to adorn church interiors. The new interest in works of art by government and wealthy or middle class families allowed the artists to depict a broader range of subject matter in their work. Art is obviously subjective. Artists’ worldwide love to give their two cents and speak with their work. They show us their interpretation and views of a controversial topic. We see their feelings such as anger, sadness, and happiness in their craft. But that’s the thing, artists have their own tastes and opinions on matters.
Many of these experts and critics believe that a painting, a sculpture, or a musical piece must reach specific quality standards to be works of art. What these people consider as actual art can usually be put under the category of “fine arts”. Moreover, the fact that more and more things are considered art does not diminish its impact on society. Laura Marks argues that visual and cultural studies originated out of the intention to correct the evident elitism and disciplinary narrowness of art history and related disciplines. Nevertheless, the move toward visual culture has created a sensory hierarchy of western philosophy which only the distance senses are seen as mediums of knowledge with the idea that only vision and hearing can be a means of beauty (Marks 2008:123). Artists are appreciated as exponents of the trained eye, who are supposed to know how to look and appeal to visual satisfaction. Their total dependency on sight has almost completely denied the sense of touch, smell, taste and hearing within an artwork (Lauwrens 2012:1).
This research was carried out not to only show awareness toward the society but also why people should take art seriously. Often times, we can see lots of people debating whether art is important or not. This happened because the lack of exposure and knowledge that has been taught to them. Art can help to shape the society and affect the society to broaden their view of perspective in life by referring on the artworks because each work of art can give different meanings to life.
