Technology has become a central part of our lives; many different types of artifacts that help us in a day-to-day basis surround us. A recent source of debate has been how technology is affecting us and how we are reacting to this. Within this concern we enter the debate if we should embrace artificial intelligence or fear it.
Artificial intelligence can be defined as intelligence in machines created through science and engineering. “Artificial intelligence a field of computer science centered on the development of technology with the capacity to do things normally requiring human intelligence”. But how can we know when this development has crossed the line? that the computer or machine is more human than computer? There are many pros and cons to be taken into account.
There are many pros to artificial intelligence. It is a very important part of the work force. Artificial intelligence can do complex tasks that a human couldn’t and even finish in half the time. Machines don’t get tired or are affected by feelings, which make them more productive. Also, its work tends to have less errors and defects. When making decision artificial intelligence doesn’t take into account feeling and weighs the options as they are making more efficient decisions. First of all, machines are taking many jobs previously done by humans. They have lack of creativity and overall human touch such as loyalty and common sense. Also, machines can have a malfunction creating wrong or bad outcome. An example would be having bugs in the system creating such bad outcomes that could end up even in death. One of the biggest fears for artificial intelligence is that machines will “acquire the ability to produce knowledge, weapons, vehicles, or other technologies that we can't begin to comprehend or understand at even the most basic level”. Basically that machines will outsmart
