The lunar effect has been a controversy for millions of years. In fact, " no celestial object has inspired more myth and legend than the full moon"(Newton). This shows why the lunar effect has been very controversial. Some reasons that cause the controversy of the lunar effect are the over-reliance of anecdotes instead of scientific evidence, as well as the exaggeration of the media, and the general publics inability to define the lunar effect. All of these reasons cause the controversy of the lunar effect to exist.

The media exaggerates the lunar effect in many different ways. One of the ways that the media exaggerates the lunar effect is by their being movies involving the lunar effect. To explain farther, "Scores of Hollywood horror flicks portray full-moon nights as peak times of spooky occurrences such as stabbings, shootings and psychotic behaviors". This quote portrays how certain movies showcase weird events and behaviors that take place during the full moon. An example of a movie that exaggerates the lunar effect is "Twilight". "Twilight" exaggerates the lunar effect by using the stereotype of supernatural creatures like vampires and werewolves coming out during the full moon. Another way that the media exaggerates the lunar effect is by reporters blaming the lunar effect for causing certain events. For example, many reporters blame the lunar effect on crimes. An example of this would be "a reporter blaming the lunar effect for causing car accidents on Sunday, when in reality their were more accidents because it's busier on the weekends. In general, people tend to believe reporters, and tend to get suspicious about movies involving the lunar effect. Most stories about the lunar effect are fake in the media and it is important to use common sense, and to not make assumptions that certain events are caused by the lunar effect. Something that you can do to make sure that the media is telling the truth about an event being caused by the lunar effect is by listening to the story carefully and making sure that it is elaborate and not made up. " deceptive people generally want to say as little as possible, some people believe that people lying would come up with an elaborate story, but the vast majority give only the bare-bones" (Wolpert, 2011). This can relate to reporters and movies. Movies involving the lunar effect usually don’t give a lot of details about the lunar effect, they are just about an obnoxious story. Reporters that talk about the lunar effect causing certain events also don’t explain the lunar effect very well and usually just exaggerate about it. This is why it is important to fully analyze a story in order to determine if a movie or person is telling the truth about the lunar effect.
