82 Words1 Pages
“In order to be diagnosed with conversion disorder, one must meet symptom criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)” (mayoclinic). The patient must have one or more uncontrollable symptoms that affect body movement or senses, and cannot be explained by a neurological or other medical condition. Doctors will ensure that the patient is not purposely producing or benefiting from the symptoms. To be legitimate, the symptoms must cause significant stress or incompetency in social, work or other settings.
