How can a person become a decent human being? The article “Cool at 13, Adrift at 23” by Jan Hoffman states that teens are pressured to be more mature. Likewise, “The treasure of Lemon Brown.” by Walter Dean Myers is a fictional story about a boy who meets a homeless man named Lemon Brown. Lemon Brown teaches him to appreciate the small things in life. Greg later goes home to his dad giving him a lecture. In my opinion, it is important to be a decent human beings so that people can think good about a person.
In the story “The treasure of Lemon Brown.” Greg learns something about himself and his father Through Lemons Brown's experience with his son. In paragraph 13 in the article it says “teens are following other people's fashion that aren't so great for teens”. This shows that teens look up to people who dress inappropriately and want to be one of the “cool kids”. Furthermore, this also illustrates when teens reached the age 23 study found that when compared to their socially slower moving middle school peers, they had a 45 percent greater rate of problems resulting from alcohol and marijuana use and a 40 percent higher level of actual use of those substances. Jon Hoffman explains in paragraph 17 that Dr. Ellen wrote in an email that a girl had many boyfriends and shoplifted but by 23 she earned her bachelor's degree. This shows that she began to learn decency. Moreover, this exemplifies how a person can become a decent human being by learning from their mistakes. All in all, some people who reach the age 23 are likely to be more mature and are focused on work and studies rather than worrying about
