According to chapter five in “Cop in the Hood” written by Peter Moskos, he points out various reason how 911 is a joke and how calling 911 is not any help to the community. Whenever there is a drug incident in the community the patrol officers totally ignore the situation. And even if the patrol officer does address the situation the patrol officer never handle the drug dealers correctly. For instance, Moskos mentioned that a resident of the neighborhood saw three youth out on a late school night doing what seemed to be suspicious business on the corner and which lead the resident to call 911 on the youths. When 911 arrived at the scene, they instantly began to harass the three young men. One patrol officer told the youth, “Go home. If I see any of you out here tonight, I’ll lock your ass up.” (Moskos, 91). This shows the lack of respect that patrol officers have for citizens in the community where they are serving. The patrol officer was being rude and disrespectful towards the young men for no reason. In which this is another example of how Moskos points out how 911 is a joke. There is not enough officers that are train to perform certain tasks such as handling drug calls. And since that is the case police officers believe that it is acceptable to not take drug calls seriously and to not respond to them immediately. Therefore, by police officers not taking drug calls in particular seriously it leave citizens to make a choice to not call 911 while knowing that they will not handle the incident
