Is it best to conform or stray off the beaten path? Some people are content with becoming "Sheep," holding no personal identity. However, a persons individualism is a very important attribute which should not be disregarded. Thinking outside the box and not following the crowd can open up many unforeseen doors and is a way to embrace the unique qualities of yourself, as well as qualities that could better the life of others. A noteworthy example of a person who didn't conform to society was Copernicus. Copernicus proposed the radical idea that the earth orbited around the sun, instead of the earth being the center of the universe. This controversial and unorthodox theory justifiably faced sharp criticism and stirred up a nasty hornets nest. I encountered this firsthand myself back when I was just a wee little child. While what I accomplished was not as remarkable as what Copernicus accomplished, I still left my mark. I was able to accomplish this by questioning the existing lunch system at my elementary school. I voiced my concerns about the long lines, offering solutions to drastically cut down on the wait time for students. My proposition was that instead of having all the students wait in one line, the system should be overhauled to segment the students into two segregated lines: one for snacks and one for full lunches. The administration took a immediate liking to this proposal and implemented these changes right away. This difference was night and day. Suddenly, students no longer had to wait for what seemed like a century for their much desired food, me included.
